You will need

  • 625e Lantern Box Die Set
  • Craft Pick
  • A4 Card
  • Tape
  • Glue
  1. Die cut all your pieces. You will need five side/top pieces and a pentagon (five sided) base.
  2. Die cut the patterns you want in them, for this example I’ve used the ‘candle in a star’ rectangle on all the sides, and the filigree triangle on all the tops. These inserts come with the Lantern Box Die Set.
  3. Fold all of the score lines, turn each panel over, so the wrong side is facing you and in turn, fold in the sides, bottom and top. Flip it over so the right side is facing and fold the top two score lines.
  4. Glue the sides of each panel together by putting a thin line of glue on the flap, lining up the next panel with the flap folded in so you are sticking the flaps together and pressing down on this until the glue is dry, this will only take a few seconds.
  5. Once you’ve got them all stuck together in a strip, glue the remaining flaps together to form your lantern shape.
  6. To glue the base on, make sure all of the flaps are folded in and place a thin line of glue on one of them. Line up with your base and stick it down in place, lifting and checking to make sure its laying right on the edge. Hold this until dry.
  7. Once the first one is in place, you can fold all of your top pieces inside the box so that it stands flat upside down. Now, put a thin line of glue and the flaps and holding the box in shape lay the attached base piece down.
  8. Once this starts to stick, turn your box over and open out your lid pieces.  Place your hand inside and press down firmly on each of the flaps in turn until the glue is dry.
  9. Fill your box with whatever treat you like. This box was made to be used as an everyday gift box with a votive candle inside.  Obviously as these are made of card and paper and are very flammable, never put a lit candle inside. A battery operated tealight will do the job!
  10. Thread a length of ribbon through the slits at the top, tie in a bow and your Lantern Box is finished.
  11. Of course you can choose to have your patterns an all of your panels or just selected panels and the top flaps can be folded the other way, in on themselves and glued in place instead of using ribbon. Ideal if you are using this as a more masculine piece.
