Embossing Folders are beautiful but difficult to use

I bought two of the embossing folders and they are beautiful. However, they are extremely difficult to use with my Sizzix Big Shot or Cricut Cuttlebug. I feel like my machine is going to break using them. Customer support was of little help. So if I want to use them , I have to make a make shift shim with layers of papers at the right width for them to go through the machine. Not an ideal situation.
